8. Complete & certify

Goal: reach 100%, see the course as completed, and download the certificate.

Prerequisite: flow 7 in progress.

What completion actually does

When the required activities are done, the platform flips the enrolment to Completed, forces progress to 100, rolls the progress up to any parent Learning Path, and fires the event that issues the certificate. Those happen together — one without the others is a bug worth reporting.

What the certificate needs

A certificate is only issued when the release settings enable one, and the tenant has a template. Two kinds exist: the certificate itself and a CRC form; each can be enabled independently, and with both off no document is produced at all.

Issuance normally happens in the background at completion; opening the completion screen can also trigger it on demand. A learner may only download their own.

Worth testing on purpose

Completion used to only be evaluated when a lesson was finished, so a course whose last required activity was a quiz or a survey could stall forever. Both paths now run the same evaluation, so finish the course on a quiz, and again on a survey — it is the case that was broken, and the regression is worth catching early.

Steps

1. As the learner, complete every remaining activity.
2. Confirm the course shows as completed and progress reads 100%.
3. Download the certificate.
4. As admin, open the gradebook and check the learner’s grade.
5. Grade the open-ended question and watch the learner’s grade update.

What to check

• Completed and 100% appear together — one without the other is a bug.
• The certificate opens, with the correct learner name and course title.
• The gradebook grade matches what the learner sees.
• After grading the open-ended question, the learner’s grade changes without a manual reload.

Where it usually breaks

• Course at 100% but the certificate button disabled.
• Accented names or titles rendering wrong in the PDF.
• The open-ended grade not propagating to the learner.
