Assignment
An Assignment asks the learner to hand something in. An instructor grades it by hand. It has the most settings of any type, and most of them are about time.
The editor
A header with the title, instructions and attached media — the files the learner needs in order to do the work — then the settings.
Deadline

Who submits
Submission source decides whether the learner hands the work in, or an instructor submits on their behalf.
Steps
- Write instructions and attach a file.
- Set Fixed date to a date in the past, allow late submission with a 10% per day deduction and a minimum grade of 40%.
- As a learner, submit after the deadline.
- As an instructor, grade it and check the deduction was applied.
- Change the assignment to Time limit — 1 week — and confirm the learner sees a window, not a fixed date.
- Turn on automatic grade for missing submission and leave a learner without a submission.
- Try submission source: instructor and submit on a learner’s behalf.
What to check
- The deduction matches the setting, and never drops below the minimum grade.
- A late submission is accepted when late submission is on, refused when it is off.
- Time limit counts from the learner’s own start, not from a shared date.
- Automatic grading only touches learners who did not submit.
- The grade the learner sees matches the gradebook.
- The attached file downloads.
Where it usually breaks
- Deduction applied per hour when it is set per day, or the other way round.
- The deadline being off by a timezone.
- An instructor-submitted assignment not showing up as the learner’s.
- The grade not reaching the learner until they reload.
